About Us

URBA provides a forum for members to share their vision for the community and ensures the voice of our business community is heard by municipal, provincial and federal governments. In addition to monthly business networking events like Uptown After Hours, URBA also organizes community events that bring people together in our community.

Uptown Rutland ... together we grow.

URBA covers the area surrounding Hwy 33 from Hollywood Road in the west to Prior Road in the east, and from Robson Road East in the south to McIntosh Road in the north.

Goals

  • To address the problems faced by many business communities: homelessness, vandalism, street-scape, sustainable growth, and community apathy.
  • To bring the community together by holding events such as the Uptown Movie Nights, Uptown After Hours, Scarecrow Convention and Christmas Light-Up festival.
  • To improve communication for the people of Rutland, Kelowna and the Okanagan. The first edition of the quarterly Capital News Uptown Rutland Sectional was published in August 2008 to increase awareness of Rutland community news and events.
  • To work with the City of Kelowna to make Uptown Rutland a vibrant, beautiful town centre. URBA has been working to bring in streetscaping and art projects that will harmonize with the new Rutland Transit station (due for completion in September 2009) and the Official Community Plan for the Rutland Town Centre.
